Currently on a break to work on volume 2. Stay tuned!

What is Thorns?
“Thorns” is a Webcomic of a completely re-imagined story of Beauty and the Beast.

What is the Genre/Rating?
Supernatural/Romance/Fantasy/Adventure. Thorns is rated PG-13 for supernatural elements, violence, and minor drug use.

How long will this Webcomic go for?
Thorns is a trilogy consisting of three books. Each book ranges from 100-180 pages depending on the story. The titles in order are: A Meeting of the Two, Smoke and Mirrors, and A Prince and a Rose.

How did you come up with this idea?
Well it’s no surprise that I have been a fan of original fairy tales and myths all my life. Thorns started out as a simple idea for a series of sketches featuring two very opposite people hanging out at a bookstore together. It escalated from there.

How close is this related to the story Beauty and the Beast?
It loosely draws inspiration from the original story of Beauty and the Beast by Jeanne-Marie Le Prince de Beaumont.

What are your inspirations for this story?
This story is inspired from the original story of Beauty and the Beast as well as The Portrait of Dorian Gray, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, Lord of the Rings, and Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. If you can’t tell already I am a huge literature fan.

What is the NeverAfter?
The NeverAfter is another world opposite to our own where all the myths and fables you only imagine exists.

Are you ever going to go into detail on Maerkis’s back story on how he got cursed?
Yes, I plan to release a short story on that you can read in the future.

Do you buffer pages?
Yes. This is the best method so I can retain the update schedule without having to leave you guys hanging if I can’t get a page done in time.

How long does it take you to do a page?
It can range from 4-8 hours with layout, sketching, inking, lettering, and coloring.

How long have you been working on Thorns?
About a year and a half now.

Are comics your full time job?
No, I work in the Feature Film Industry in Animation as well as freelance on the side. Comics are something I do in my free time.

Did you go to school for comics?
I did go to an art school but my main focus was animation. I never took any comic classes (there were none offered even if I wanted to). I’m self taught on the comic front which is why you see more of an animated look and approach to my comic style.

Do you have any tips for making a Comic?
Please visit here where I show my tips and techniques.

May I do Fanart based on your characters?
Yes, I enjoy seeing Fanart! Send it to me and I will put it in the Fanart section (please make sure it’s appropriate though-thanks!) I ask that you please credit/link back to me so others can see Thorns as well.

Will you give me any feedback on my project?
I keep a very busy schedule with the projects I’m currently involved with. The best thing you can do is to try. However, no promises that I will get to every one. Please don’t take it personally either. I barely have a social life as it is.
